STOKESLEY PROGRESS TO NATIONAL FINAL

Stokesley U13 boys football team won the Tesco Cup Northern England Regional Final at the University of Manchester on Saturday. The boys now advance to the English Final of the Tesco Cup at the Walkers Stadium, Leicester on 17 May.

It was a dramatic tournament for Stokesley, who faced a penalty shootout to progress to the Semi Final stage and penalties again in the final against De La Salle FC from Manchester. ‘Player of the Tournament' James Stinson led the line for Stokesley having played well all day. In a tight final game, neither side were able to break the deadlock and score. Stokesley were triumphant after winning 5-4 on penalties.

Former Man Utd footballer David May and Nottingham Forest women's player Levi Penny attended the tournament, and selected the following players to win individual awards:

Best Goalkeeper Jordan Hamilton (De La Salle)
Best Defender Zachary Crosby-McCann (Milnthorpe Town)
Best Midfielder Johnathan Quinn (Wallsend Boys Club)
Best Forward Adam Frame (Sunderland Redby)
Player of the Tournament James Stinson (Stokesley)

Tesco Cup Ambassador David May commented: ‘I am delighted to be an Ambassador for the Tesco Cup. It is great to hear that over 3500 teams have taken part across the country, which demonstrates the success of the tournament. I have been really impressed by the standard of play at the Northern England Regional Final.'
