Tynecastle FC U13 boys reach Tesco Cup UK Final
Following victory at the Scottish Tesco Cup final this weekend, Tynecastle FC U13 boys now advance to the UK final of the Tesco Cup for the second consecutive year, to be held at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton on 16 May.
Tynecastle faced Hutchinson Vale for the fourth time this season, knowing that a win would bring the two evenly matched teams to two victories each. The Tesco Cup Scottish final was another tense match, which was eventually won 4-3 on penalties.
The first half of normal time was goalless, with few scoring opportunities for both teams. Early in the second half, Hutchinson Vale took the lead, but Tynecastle responded with a superb goal from Kyle Summers just minutes later. After extra time the result was 1-1 to Tynecastle.
Player of the tournament was awarded to Sam Daniel from Tynecastle, while teammates Kyle Summers, Danny Brooks and Sean Brennan were awarded Best Forward, Best Defender and Goalkeeper of the tournament respectively.
Tynecastle FC U13 boys Team Manager Simon Kinghorn, said, ‘Credit to both teams for reaching the Scottish final, it is a great achievement for youth football in Edinburgh. Tynecastle are delighted with the win and the boys are all really looking forward to representing Scotland in the UK Final of the Tesco Cup Competition in May.'
The Tesco Cup is part of a wider commitment from Tesco to encourage children to get involved in sport. Now in its fifth year, Tesco works in conjunction with the FA and local communities to help improve the football skills of young players.
Tesco Cup teams compete at County and then Regional level (area level in Wales) in a bid to become National Champions and ultimately, to represent their country at the UK Final. The National Winners, in each age category, from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will play in the UK Final to be held at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton - the home of Bolton Wanderers - on Sunday May 16, 2010, where they will fight it out to become UK Champions.
In 2008/09 England dominated the UK final with Stokesley FC U13 boys, Manchester City U14 girls and Manchester U16 girls winning the tournament.
